We spend a lot of our time reading. Whether it be text, emails, books, subtitles, or tweets….But what about those of us who write books? The creators who take us to different worlds of magic or space knights? Adventure or passion? Healing or self-growth? What is it that they experience on their journey to becoming the grand creator? Let’s catch a glimpse from the young author Joyce Azonye.
What Sparked Your Passion?
“Ever since I was young, I knew that writing made me happy. It has always been something I have thoroughly enjoyed. Although there wasn’t a definitive moment where I decided that writing was my passion, it has been something that has been within me forever and as I grew older my fondness for literature and art throughout words has only gotten stronger. My father was an author, I like to think that in some way this path was destined to be mine, just because of who he was. Back in high school and early childhood, my peers questioned me when I said that English was my favorite subject. I learned early on that English wasn’t a subject most were too fond of, and many people have a genuine dislike toward writing. However, I could not imagine a world where writing, storytelling, and poetry didn’t exist. To me, words are art, and a pen and paper have always been my canvas.”
What Keeps You Motivated on this Journey?
“My main opposition to this pursuit has been myself. There have been points in my journey in which I did not believe in my ability to accomplish my goal of becoming a published author, and it took words of encouragement from some of my closest friends and stepping outside of myself in order to continue in pursuit of my goal. Often in life, we tend to stand in our own way the most. Step aside and believe in yourself. You have to be your own biggest fan!”
What’s Your End goal?
“My main goal throughout my work as an author is to help others understand that their struggles are shared. Anything we go through, we have the ability to get through. Another main thing I stand by is the ability to dream big. I want my readers to know that your wildest dreams have every capacity of becoming realities, and the only person that could possibly stand in the way of your dream being brought to life, is you. I want to continue publishing stories that act as a beacon of light and hope to those in need, while fueling my passion for the English language through literature and story-telling.”
